Today it has been one year since I started my journey from Ulm, Germany!
So far I have travelled roughly 46000km, visited 32 countries and crossed borders 54 times.
Things have not gone totally as planned, because I wanted to have this one year celebration in Bali, but now it will be held on a surgery table in Germany (will have second hand surgery today)…
During the past year I have seen some truly amazing places, met wonderful people and tasted many different kinds of food. I have also met a lot of other travellers from all around the world.
One of the most commonly asked question is “what has been the most amazing place?”.
It is impossible to answer this question, but I can mention a few places which are on the top of my mind at the moment:
Maybe the biggest surprise to me has been the hospitality of the people everywhere. If I would trust what news are telling, I would not dare to go anywhere.
Has this travel changed me as a person? I think people who know me could give the best answer, but I think I am more relaxed, happier and more open to meet new people.
My bike has been working well, only few minor things have caused some problems. Unfortunately my accident in Java, Indonesia left my bike to a quite a bad condition, but it is still fixable 🙂
Unfortunately I will have a couple of months mandatory break now to get my hand and bike fixed, but journey will continue 🙂
I will keep on writing blog updates during my healing period, so check this page every now and then 🙂
Hi Jia,
Will keep it up 🙂
Haha, totta!
I also feel you become cheerful than before, keep it up =))))
Hi Dong,
🙂 Hopefully everything is going well in Hong Kong?
-Marko
Marko,
you are always my hero!
all the best furthermore.

Moro Serkulle,
Kaikki riippuu siitä että kuinka kauan tuolla OZ:ssa tulee viivyttyä. On sen verran iso maa…
Yhdyn ylla oleviin kommentteihin, etta paljon rennomman nakoinen kaveri kuvassa 2. Mielenkiinnolla seuraan etta vielako ehdit ennen ensi talvea (etelaisen pallonpuoliskon talvea) tanne NZ 😀
Hi Raphael,
Nice to hear from you! Would be nice to see old collagues!
Naatin 🙂
Moro Jouko,
Hi Nick,
Thanks 🙂
Hi Elke,
Yes, year went really fast. At least my hair got quite much longer 🙂
wow that year flew by fast! you know, you look so much more relaxed in the new photo – despite the hand. travelling seems to be good for you!
Marko,
Get well soon my friend, the rest of the world awaits you!
Nick.
Pitkästä aikaa taas aloin lukemaan tarinoitasi ja oli vähän ikävä yllätys nähdä nuo metallituet käsivarressa 🙂 . Nyt ehkä voi pitää hiukan lomaa lomasta, eli vähän sulatella menneitä ennen uusia seikkailuja.
Aika priimoja kuvia sulla on.
Pikaista paranemista.
t Jouko
Olet myös rennomman oloinen 🙂 …. Vuosi on tehnyt hyvää sinulle 😉 …. Nauti elämästä <3
Hello Marko! Man…I just saw yesterday your post about the accident. Good to hear that everything in fixable (you and bike) : ) … Hope you stop in Manaus to meet old Nokia People!
Cheers
Raphael
Hi Nicole,
Surgery went well, only problem is that my wrist and fingers are really stiff, so lot of physiotherapy is needed.
This restaurant can be found from Batumi, Georgia 🙂
Relax, you do not need to wait 2 months for the next update, I am quite much behind with my stories, so updates will come during my mandatory healing period 🙂
-Marko
Hi Joachim,
Thank you!
I will post some stories during my recovery period 🙂
Tomorrow I will start getting first parts for the bike 🙂
Now the hardest work is with the hand. At the moment my left arm is totally useless, lot of work ahead to get it working again…
Hairless fashion was during the starting day 🙂
-Marko
😀 Ikä lähtee kun tukka kasvaa?
Thanks pikkuveli 🙂
Hope all went well with surgery today.
Where is that wacky building in picture No 9, that upside down restaurant. Quite some funky architecture for sure !
2 months of rest … I have itchy feet to see you back on the road that you can publish more fantastic photos.
Dear Marko,
1st year anniversery congratulations to you. Thank you so much for all the inspiration, stories and great pictures on your blog, which i love to follow since your start 1 year ago.
Take your time to get full convalescence in order to “start again”
yeah reminds me to Billy Idols song – sing it loud START AGAIIIN ‘:-)
All the best – double – tripple
Joachim
ps
razor sharp hair style – you are in desperate need for a smaller helmet maybe
Kyllä täytyy myöntää että olet nuortunut viimeisen vuoden aikana 🙂
Good luck for your surgery! Lets hope that your fingers starts to move soon 🙂
